Art Fair

So this time I actually have news to post about. Thanks to Lisa's prodding, I entered the Westport Art fair and was accepted. I am now prepping work to be displayed.

I haven't done this before and always worry about how my art will be received. I guess on a base level I shouldn't care. Folks I know seem to like my stuff and I've never really tried to make a living at it. I need to lose the mindset that my stuff isn't good. It is good. (Can't believe I just said that out loud, anyway) I am looking forward to the experience.

I am also excited that Kamryn and I will be working on a new website in the next couple of weeks to be able to sell (hopefully) a few of my works.

The dates for the Art Westport are Sept 7-9. Please drop by and say hi and look at some of my stuff.

Here is a shot from a trip to North Central Missouri
It is taken on the Thompson River
Nikon 610, Nikor 28-105 at 28mm, f6.3, 1/640, iso640
a little cleanup in Lightroom (shooting with RAW as I do, it is pretty much a must as the base images are flat by design)

I have found that my interests in image creation have split. Almost as if I am of two brains. I shoot the majority of things on my phone, as I think most of us do. The last two phones, in fact, I have chosen for their cameras only.

Here is virtually the same shot from my Samsung S9+ Phone
26mm, f2.4, 1/415, iso50
No processing at all, straight from the phone

I love my D610. I love the images I am able to create with it. But with the majority of images viewed today being presented on a 10" or less screen? With a little PS work there is no way I couldn't get the phone image above to equal the Nikon above on that venue.

Another from that North Central Missouri trip.
26mm, f2.4, 1/334, iso50
Again, no post, straight from the phone

The amazing thing about the phone images, and truth be told, my daughter's Fuji X100T as well, is the way they handle dynamic range. Things you have to create in post from a DSLR.

I do think my next major camera purchase will be a Fuji X100F. (in black to annoy Kamryn) :-)

So that about does it for today. Hope this finds you all (3 of you) well. Spread the word and maybe I will find time to post more :-)

Sorry Europeans

I want to apologize to any Europeans who might actually wander on here. I am an American and don't plan to ever comply with this crazy GDPR . In the US, the street is considered to remove your expectation of privacy. If you are in the public you can expect to have your image saved and taken on a regular basis. The irony of this craziness in Europe is that they have the most security cameras on the planet. So apparently, if the Gov't takes your image without getting prior consent, it's fine.

So, if you are seeing this from Europe. You are warned.
